Cheyenne East High School prides itself on being the best high school in Wyoming. No matter the club, team, sport, event or competition, you will always find the Thunderbirds at the top. The T-Birds’ Speech and Debate team is no different. Over the last several years, the EHS Speech and Debate team has become the clear favorite in local, regional and national tournaments.
The team started off the school year by winning nearly every competition they entered. As they moved into the second half of the school year, the competition stiffened, but the squad continued to win, and win big.
One of the highlights of 2019 is the team’s success in the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational at James Logan High School in Union City, CA. This three-day event is a wonderful opportunity for more than 90 of the top-caliber high school speech and debate teams from across the country. The tournament features over 100 entries in each event. The event celebrates diversity in hopes of empowering the voices of youth to engage in social change in their community and the world. In honor of Dr. King, the tournament offers a brave and inclusive space for competition where competitors can bring performances and researched cases to continue to fight for social justice.
