East High School’s Capstone class is taking hands-on learning to the next level. This semester, students are spearheading a project to purchase and assemble between five and seven high-end desktop computers. These machines will not only power more intensive Capstone projects but could also serve as the foundation for a growing interest in Esports at the school.
The initiative comes as part of the Capstone program’s focus on practical, real-world applications. By building the computers themselves, students will gain valuable experience in hardware, problem-solving, and teamwork—skills that carry over to both academic and career paths.
“These computers aren’t just for gaming,” said one student involved in the project. “They’re going to give us the ability to run more demanding software, whether that’s for coding, design, or other creative work. And yes, Esports is something we’re really excited to explore, too.”
Faculty members supporting the project hope the new systems will become a long-term resource for students. The upgraded technology is expected to open doors for projects involving video editing, 3D modeling, and competitive gaming events, helping East High stay ahead in both academic and extracurricular opportunities.
The computers are expected to be fully built and available for student use later this school year, marking a milestone in East High’s commitment to innovation and student-led learning.
